The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane

The Red Badge of Courage is a novel abuot the Civil War written in 1895 by Stephen Crane. This novel is considered one of the most influential works in American Literature. It depicts the cruelty of the Civil War and centers on a young recruit in the Union army named Henry Fleming who overcomes his initial fears to become a battlefield hero.

Eventhough Crane did not fight during the Civil War, nor was he even alive when it took place, he does a great job of depicting what it was like during those four hellish years that the Union and the Confederacy fought against one another.
