Vampires and the Civil War

In today's world, there are not many people who do not know what Twilight is. It has become a phenomonon in just a few short years. The story of forbidden loe and mythical creatures has hit like a storm and with one more film to go, this storm is not ending anytime soon.

Eclipse is the third book in the four-book saga and June 30, when Eclipse hits theaters, is fastly approaching. The third installment reveals some background in the most distant Cullen, Jasper. Until Eclipse, Jasper was always in the background, shying away from Bella until her birthday accident in New Moon that caused the absence of the Cullens for a good portion of the second installment. Jasper is the newest to the "vegetarian" life-style that the Cullens practice. He has a harder time being around Bella than the rest of the Cullens (excluding Edward).

In Eclipse, we learn of Jasper's past as a Civil War soldier who moved through the ranks quite quickly becuase of his charismatic personality. He joined the Confederate Army in 1861 at the age of 17. Jasper was changed at the age of 20 in 1863, ending his two years as a Confederate soldier.

The American Civil War is not something that was once written about and is now forgotten. Stephanie Meyer brings the Civil War back into the minds of all those who read the Twilight Saga and having a character that the readers get to know as a soldier in the Civil War helps get more people interested.
